The Tax Department provides quality service to Tribal members, businesses, and visitors by administering Tribal tax laws, issuing business licenses, collecting tax revenue, and assisting with tax exemption requests. We promote compliance, support economic growth, and serve our community with integrity, professionalism, and respect.
What We Do
Tribal Business License
A Tribal Business License is required for individuals and businesses operating within the jurisdiction of the Yerington Paiute Tribe. Applicants submit a completed application, provide required documentation, and pay the applicable fee before beginning operations.
Sales and Use Tax
Businesses operating within the Tribe jurisdiction collect applicable sales tax, report taxable sales, and submit Sales and Use Tax Return forms with payment by the due date. Forms and instructions are available through the Tax Department.
Governmental Services Tax Exemption
We assist eligible Tribal members with obtaining Governmental Services Tax (GST) exemption documentation for qualifying vehicle registrations, based on the required documentation and eligibility requirements.

What documents do I need for a Governmental Services Tax exemption?
A valid government-issued photo ID, proof of enrollment in a federally recognized Nevada Tribe, proof of residency on Tribal land within the Tribe jurisdiction, current vehicle registration or title, the VIN if not on the registration, and any additional documentation required by the Tax Department or the Nevada DMV.
Do Tribal members pay for business licenses?
Enrolled members who operate as sole proprietors are exempt from Tribal Business License fees. This exemption applies only to sole proprietorships, not to partnerships, LLCs, corporations, or other formal business entities, unless otherwise provided by Tribal law.
Do Tribal members need a business license?
Yes. Enrolled members are required to obtain a Tribal Business License when conducting business within the Tribe jurisdiction. Sole proprietors are exempt from the fee but must still complete the application and obtain a valid license before conducting business.
